Hacking computers is a mysterious and dangerous world that most of us don’t really understand. This video shows some hackers at DEFCON demonstrating their techniques on a reporter who volunteered to be hacked.
The video shows some basic “social engineering” which may use technical knowledge and experience, but involves classic “confidence” manipulation to gain credentials and access to devices. It also shows hows “phishing” emails are used to penetrate systems and take over the entire cyber life of a target.
What the video does not show is the area of using exploit software that allows a hacker to penetrate a computer with no interaction from anybody else, and the world of “zero-days” (exploits that hackers are using, but have not yet been discovered by defenders)
